Worktop finish
Hardwax oil vs lacquer for a worktop
The choice is a trade-off: hardwax oil feels more natural and is easier to refresh locally, while lacquer creates a stronger film for stains, water and daily cleaning.
Hardwax oil
Best when touch, natural appearance and local maintenance matter. It is less forgiving around standing water, hot dishes and aggressive cleaning chemicals. On epoxy areas, compatibility must be confirmed.
Lacquer
Best when resistance and easy cleaning matter more than the raw-wood feel. A good lacquer system protects the whole top as one surface, but scratches usually require more structured repair.
Practical rule
- Kitchen or commercial worktop: lean toward lacquer or 2K PU.
- Decorative table with natural touch: hardwax oil can make sense.
- Wood plus epoxy: test adhesion on resin before committing to oil/wax systems.
