Finishes & food contact

A finish can be beautiful, durable and still require careful reading of the product documentation. Food-contact language depends on the exact product, cure schedule and intended use.

Selection

Choose by use case

  • Kitchen worktops need higher chemical and heat resistance than decorative panels.
  • Oils and hardwax oils feel natural, but may need maintenance.
  • PU and 2K systems can offer stronger protection, but require careful application.
Food contact

Check the product claim

Do not assume that every finish is suitable for food contact. Look for the exact manufacturer declaration, standard, cure time and use conditions.

Epoxy edge

Wood and resin behave differently

On mixed wood/resin surfaces, test adhesion and appearance. Sanding sequence, cleaning and full cure can change the result.

Worktop

Prioritize chemical resistance and real-use cleaning.

Dining table

Balance feel, durability and maintenance.

Decorative object

Visual clarity and repairability may matter more than heavy duty resistance.
